Maybe Motherhood and/or pregnancy looks different on you than you'd imagined or hoped for. No one expects to have days that break them because they are so difficult.
No one hopes to have so little extra energy that it takes maximum effort just to shower and take care of their basic personal needs. No one is excited for difficulties bonding to their baby, who they love more than anyone or anything--especially when talking about those difficulties in our culture today is not necessarily the norm and moms often fear further shame by sharing their truth. No one wants to be filled with panic and dread.
But these things are a reality for many women with PPD/PPA. And I want you to know that you are not alone! Counseling can help, and I would be so honored to go on that walk to a better tomorrow with you.

If you are struggling in your relationship with food, counseling can help! I am
passionate about helping my clients find a healthy and sustainable approach to food and their bodies. I am committed to an anti-diet, Intuitive Eating approach known as Health at Every Size (HAES), I believe that true healing will not come from dieting alone, but rather from learning to trust your body again, practicing self-acceptance, and breaking the binge-restrict cycle.
If you are ready to make peace with food and your body, and start living fully again, I am here to support you in your goals! Use the get started button below to be contacted for a consultation. While your spiritual and religious beliefs do not need to have a place in therapy for therapy to be effective, if you do have a relationship with God and consider that faith to be an important part of your/your family's life, I think it can be very helpful to incorporate it into your counseling, or counseling for your child. I identify as Christian myself and find great comfort in my faith.
I tell you this not at all because I have some hidden Christian agenda to push my own beliefs on my clients. Rather, I tell you this to offer Christian Counseling services to those looking for that as an option. I have education on and experience providing Christian faith-based counseling to those who want it.
If you have spiritual beliefs that are outside of Christianity that you would like to incorporate into your treatment plan, or you wish to not involve religion at all, those are both fine, too! Counseling is for everyone.

Simply said, I help children face the parts of life that are difficult for them, cause them stress, or make them feel bad about themselves. I listen, teach, model and guide the child to take control of their feelings and behaviors by helping them learn to express themselves in healthier ways that bring them better understanding and unity with the people around them.
By listening to and getting to know your child, together we will create personalized coping skills that your child will be excited to practice (which PS is the only way to get them to use said coping skills when they are upset and actually in need of them!). Coping skills make calming down in the moment easier, and are one of the first steps to changing their thought-patterns and behaviors in positive ways.
The most common issues I work with children on are ADHD, anger and/or explosive behavior, low self-esteem and negative self-talk, depression and anxiety, OCD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and more.
I work with children five and older. Please visit the 'For Parents' tab for more information about bringing your child to counseling at Full Bloom.
If your child is younger than five, or nonverbal, and you are struggling with their behavior please see the 'Counseling for Parents' section below, as this can be a great option for you! That would look like you coming to counseling to discuss parenting strategies to help you with your little one.

I let all teens that I work with know I am not reporting back their every word to their parents. Therapy is a safe place for them to verbalize their feelings, talk about the people and relationships in their lives, sort out their good ideas from not-so-good ideas, and to learn new ways of coping with life’s problems.
Your teen may have some difficult things they want to talk about, but they don't have the words to do so just yet. I want them to know that I plan to get to know them, let them get to know me (within what is professional and appropriate), and to earn their trust so they feel comfortable whenever they are ready to open up.
I always encourage the teens I work with to talk to you, their parents, about the same things they talk with me about. To share their feelings in respectful ways with you, even if they have an opposing view point, and to use counseling as a practice of sorts for how to share their thoughts and feelings with healthy, safe communication tactics in their arsenal of tools, even when (especially when) it is hard to speak their truth.
This is very important for teens as they get ready to leave home in coming years, begin more serious relationships, start careers, live with roommates, travel, etc. to be able to speak up for themselves and communicate their problems in ways that are actually heard and can be managed.
I work with teens on a range of topics including self-esteem/insecurities, negative self-talk, stress, pressure to perform (in school, a sport, etc), anger, depression, anxiety, ADHD, perfectionism, body image issues, cyber-safety, college/career/life planning, and more.

For children ten years old and younger (though oftentimes parents' of older children or teens choose to participate in these sessions as well), the parents' of my clients are called to participate. The reason I strongly encourage parent sessions for the parents' of my younger clients is because there is a body of research to support this decision.
When the parent(s) and therapist are all on the same page, so that the parents can help implement at home what their child is working on in therapy, it brings about the highest possible success for the child, which of course is our ultimate goal. Parents' of children ten years old and younger typically meet with me for a parents session after every four sessions their child comes to therapy, so about every one to two months.
During these parent sessions I provide psychoeducation about any diagnosis your child has been given, so you can learn more about your child's diagnosis and ways it might impact them now and in the future (PS diagnoses are not necessarily permanent!). I will also teach you the same terminology, give you lessons on how the brain works (the same way I already taught it to your child so you can continue the discussion at home), and I show you the coping skills/strategies your child is learning and working on in therapy.
This is also a time for you to give me any updates or tell me about any changes you've noticed in your child, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have. These sessions help parents build effective communication with their young (and maybe moody) ones, improve behavior management skills, and ultimately strengthens their relationship with their child by embarking on the healing journey together, as a family.
As a mom myself, I like to say parenting is the hardest job you'll ever love; nothing matters more than your children! I do all of this with the intention of arming parents with the tools they need to get themselves and their children through this tough time. Because typically speaking, if you are seeking counseling services, then chances are it is either tough at home, school, in your child's mind, with friends, or another common environment for your child right now and maybe it is affecting the rest of your family, too. So I want to be in communication with and a support to you, parents.
During the parents sessions, your child is still the client, so our goals will be centered around ways you can help them on their healing journey as their parent(s). I am always very open and honest with my clients, no matter their age, about letting them know their parents are going to meet with me to talk about ways to help them. Children, in my experience, are very open and receptive to this, oftentimes giving me tidbits they'd like for me to share with you.
For teens who's parents choose to participate in these sessions, I will ask your teen if there is anything they want to be "off limits" to talk about with their parents, after explaining parent sessions are not just reviews of everything they talked about in therapy.
These sessions are almost always done over Telehealth and can be scheduled as 25 minute or 50 minute sessions, depending on a couple of different factors that will determine how much time we will need.
